Gai copper sulphide deposit is located in the East of Orenburg region within Gai district.

Discovery of copper ore intersactions was the basis for exploration works in Gai region the result of which was strike of one of the largest copper sulphide deposits. Previous years were dedicated to exploration of the deposit therefore in spite of pressure on the deposit its reserves are grown. Here is 76% of ore reserves of Orenburg region. Except for copper Gai ore contains zinc, lead, sulfur, gold, silver as well as rare and trace elements: cadmium, selenium, tellurium, gallium, bismuth.

In 1999 Gai mining-and-processing combine was included into Ural Mining&Metallurgical Company and became the key raw material base. Copper, copper-zinc and sulfur ores are mined at the combine and then are processed at the local concentrator. Produced copper and zinc concentrates and part of ore are supplied to processing plants in Russian and partially abroad.

Crushed stone for road building is produced from diabase by-product.
